my latest art piece went bad

i did this weird self portrait yesterday where i tried to capture my inner feelings but it ended up looking like a messed up abstract thing. now im wondering if its just me being too emotionally unstable or is this normal for artists? should i stick with more traditional portraits or embrace the chaos? what do yall think?
