My Boss Thinks I'm Clueless About Self-Checkout Tech

So, there’s this thing at work that I’ve been dying to share because it’s kind of hilarious. See, my job is at a big box store where we have those fancy self-checkout lanes. Now, let me tell you, they’re pretty complicated with all their buttons and scanners and such. But here’s the kicker: my boss thinks I’m totally lost when it comes to that technology. One day, there was this guy who tried to use a coupon on one of the self-checkout machines. It wouldn’t scan properly because he put it in backwards. He started getting really frustrated and wanted someone from customer service over right away. Instead of asking him how I could help or if he needed assistance with figuring out his mistake, I pretended like I didn’t know anything about it either. I made little faces showing confusion, even asked some dumb questions like, ‘Uh...do you have to flip the coupon around or something?’ All while secretly giggling because of course I knew exactly what was going on. Then, before he could complain too much, I whispered to him that maybe he should just go through one of those lanes run by actual humans over there. He got the hint and walked away, looking kind of embarrassed. My boss came up not long after, giving me a look like, ‘How are you handling this?’ And guess what? She never suspected anything because I’m known for being pretty bad with technology. Now every time someone has trouble, they come to me first. But the funny part is that they think it’s because I can’t figure out self-checkout machines; in reality, I just love watching people try and make sense of them when there are easier options available! It’s like a little game between my coworkers and me!
