I Lied About the Halloween Candy Supply

So I've been meaning to confess this for ages. Last October, right after the big trick-or-treat night, my kids were all grumpy because they thought we didn't have enough candy left in our bowl. They kept asking me when I would buy more and complained about how stingy their dad was with handing out treats. Honestly, it was a pain. The truth is that I knew there was plenty of candy still in the closet, but my kids were so whiny about not getting anything else right away that I decided to make up an excuse instead. One night when they were asleep, I snuck into their room and took out some toys under the guise of 'making space' for new candy we'd get 'soon.' The next day, my son asked me if there was any chance we could go buy more right then. And you know how much he loves to ask for things? That's when I told him that our local stores had no Halloween candy left because everyone bought too much the day before. He seemed disappointed but mostly accepted it and forgot about the whole thing after a few days, thankfully. But every time they come out with new holiday candies in January, he always asks me if we're going to wait until next October again for Halloween treats. I feel bad that I lied, but my kids were so annoying at the time! Plus, there's still plenty of candy left and it'll be a fun surprise when they find all those leftovers. So yeah, tell me: am I really the asshole here? Is it such a big deal to lie about a small thing like Halloween candy just for some peace and quiet from my kids?
