Patient's Pillow Talk

Saw a patient crying during my shift today. Kept professional distance but handed them tissues and whispered it's okay to cry. Patient opened up about missing their pet who recently passed away. I listened while they sobbed into the pillow, feeling strangely connected despite not knowing them well. Is this normal for nursing? Comments?
