A Small White Lie to My Parents

I always pride myself on being honest with my parents, but there was one time I told a tiny lie that's been gnawing at me for weeks. You see, it was the weekend of the school science fair, and my little sister had worked tirelessly on her project about plant growth under different colored lights. She was so excited to present it because she thought she'd won an award at practice runs in class. On the day of the event, I found out we couldn't attend due to a last-minute family commitment. Rather than telling my parents that our plans changed and we missed the science fair, I spun a story about how all the projects were under glass cases, making it impossible for us to see any displays up close. It felt like such a little fib at the time, my sister would have been disappointed either way, but now every time she talks about school events, my conscience nags me. Maybe next time, I'll be braver and just tell them what really happened.
