i did something naughty but also kinda funny

so there was this time where my kids were being super annoying and i just needed a break. they were playing with each of their own little toys in the living room and it was driving me crazy because they were so loud, you know? i tried to tell them nicely that maybe they could play quietly or take turns but they weren't having any of it. i got so frustrated. then i saw this old pair of earphones in my junk drawer with no cords attached anymore and a weird idea popped into my head. i thought, well, what if i pretend these are actual headphones? maybe that'll convince them to stop being loud for like 10 minutes at least. so i put one on each kid's head and said, hey guys, guess what? we're all going to be in a secret mission control room now where we have special earphones to listen to the astronauts communicating with earth! if they hear even one sound coming from you two, our whole mission will fail and we won't get any more cool secrets. so you need to be super quiet for me ok? they totally bought it! both of them went into a whispering frenzy trying to talk about space stuff without making a peep. i stayed in the background like i was listening too but obviously not actually hearing anything and just smiled at how quiet they were being, which is rare. after maybe 20 minutes, one kid started getting curious if it really worked so i had to make up another story about why we needed the secret mission again. it went on for hours until both of them finally crashed from all that whispering and I could relax. does that count as tricking my kids into being quiet or was there a better way? i did feel bad afterwards but also super relieved at how peaceful everything got! i'll have to remember these imaginary earphones next time we need some silence.
