The Great Drink Spill Fiasco at Work
Anonymous Cunning Snitch #991 · General
So, you know how I always try to be the most responsible bartender out there? Yeah, well, today was a total anomaly. And let me tell you, it’s not like one of those days where someone spills their drink or drops ice on the floor, oh no, that would have been normal and expected. No, this was something else entirely. I was working my lunch shift at a pretty busy cafe-bar sort of place in downtown, and there's this new intern bartender, let’s call her Mia for anonymity’s sake. She’s trying to prove herself but hasn’t quite got the hang of things yet. Well, I see her struggling with one of our bigger bottles of whiskey, you know, the 1-liter ones that require two hands if you’re doing it right. Now, usually I would just offer a helping hand or something, but today I was just so focused on my own duties and trying to avoid any mess. So instead, I kept telling myself “She can handle this,” while simultaneously planning out how to make sure no one gets in the way of her path, like predicting every possible scenario for spillage prevention. But you know what? That bottle suddenly took a life of its own. It slipped right through Mia’s grip and just as it was about to hit the floor, I instinctively rushed over to try and catch it. Only problem is, in my haste to stop that impending mess, I managed to knock over an entire row of wine glasses behind me. And let me tell you, when those things break? It's like a miniature avalanche. So yeah, while everyone was rushing around trying to clean up the wine disaster I caused, Mia and I are left standing there with this massive puddle of whiskey on the floor in front of us. We both looked at each other, probably thinking “Did that just happen?” It was one of those moments where you know things aren’t going as they should, but everyone's too busy dealing with the aftermath to really call me out for it. I mean, hindsight is 20/20 and all that. Maybe if I had stepped in earlier to help Mia instead of trying to prevent my own imaginary scenarios from happening, this wouldn't have occurred. But alas, here we are, learning the hard way that sometimes you just can’t predict everything.
