I Pranked My Lab Partner With Fake Data

So here's a thing I did that I'm not exactly proud of but also wouldn't change if given the chance. In my grad school lab, we were working on this big project together, my partner and me. She’s really smart and she knows it. And I guess I just got tired of her attitude one day. Anyway, I had a late night in the library, digging through old data sets from a previous study that never saw the light of day. Found some weird stuff - random numbers that didn't match any trends or patterns we were looking for. Felt like it was an inside joke someone played on us years back. Next morning in lab, I told her about these 'new findings' I had stumbled upon while reviewing our old files. She was super into it at first, thinking this was going to be a huge breakthrough or something. But when we tried to correlate the data with our current work... nada. I couldn't help but laugh inside because she looked so disappointed and frustrated. It took her about two weeks before she figured out that what I had presented wasn't real at all, just random numbers I'd generated overnight. She was pissed obviously. But you know what? If we ever did another project together, I might do it again. I like having the upper hand, and sometimes I feel like my partner takes me for granted. Plus there's something about her reaction that makes me smirk every time.
