I Might Be An Icebreaker Disaster

So uh, I always thought of myself as pretty chill and social. Like yeah, maybe sometimes a bit awkward but not that bad right? But last weekend at this friend's birthday party, things got really weird. I was trying to chat with these new friends from school who hadn't hung out much before, you know, making an effort. And suddenly I start rambling about my favorite board game as if it's the best thing ever and they look like they're trying not to laugh or fall asleep at the same time. It was so embarrassing! I had this moment where I just froze mid-sentence, red-faced, feeling everyone staring at me because I'd been talking for what felt like forever about something that couldn't possibly interest anyone else but me. And then after that, whenever someone tried to start a conversation with me the rest of the night, my mind went blank and all I could think was 'Oh no, don’t say anything weird this time!' Was it just one bad day or am I actually not good at these things? Anyone else ever had moments like this where they completely lose themselves in one topic and everyone seems to be rolling their eyes? Am I doomed to always be the person who's all talk and no fun? Please tell me it gets better! 🙏
