I Broke the Coffee Pot and Lied About It

So here's this thing I've been keeping from everyone at work. The other day, we had a huge rush in the morning and I was juggling so many orders it felt like my head might explode. One of our baristas called out sick right before lunch, so it was just me running everything. Out of nowhere, the coffee pot stopped working. It made this weird sound before going totally dead. Now, I know for sure that a pot like that isn't supposed to break down unless you do something stupid, and well... let's just say I didn’t exactly follow all the safety guidelines while cleaning it last week. So yeah, instead of confessing and getting fired or whatever, I told everyone the coffee pot broke on its own. I even tried to act really sad about it. But now I feel terrible, it was a small lie, but one that might get someone else in trouble if they find out it wasn’t actually broken. And you know what’s worse? We got another barista back after lunch, and the next morning when I came in early for prep work, I noticed the coffee pot was working perfectly fine. So now I just feel like a total liar without even getting away with anything.
