My Tiny Lie at the Coffee Shop
Anonymous Sassy Busybody #682 · General
So, I was grabbing my usual coffee today, one of those grande decaf vanilla lattes. But when the barista asked if it was for here or to go, something just snapped in me. Maybe it was how early it was and the thought that this little moment of caffeine and warmth would be over too soon. Or maybe I just wanted an excuse to sit and enjoy my drink without worrying about the coffee spill on my shirt from leaning too far while walking. So, against all better judgment (and my love for keeping things low-key and not a bother), I said it was for here when really it was meant to go. As I sat there trying to look nonchalant as people filed past with their drinks in hand, the irony hit me: that tiny white lie had made me feel like everyone could see through me. It's funny how something so small can make you feel so exposed and guilty.
