My Grandkid Thinks I'm Cool for Old Stuff

You know how grandkids think everything old is cool? Well, they’re not wrong. My granddaughter thinks it’s hilarious when I tell stories about how we used to dial phone numbers on actual phones with rotary dials, and that you could only make a call if your number wasn’t busy! She gets such joy from these tales, and it makes me feel younger somehow. But here's the thing, I also started using a flip phone because she loves them so much. It’s this tiny, clunky thing with buttons for every single digit. I feel like a hipster of sorts, trying to impress a grandkid with outdated tech. And yet, she keeps asking when we can go down to the corner shop and use an actual payphone, like those are even still around! She's so excited about it all that I find myself joining in the fun, sometimes pretending I don't know how to do certain things just to see her get all animated again. It’s silly really, but when you’re a grandparent, these moments of pure delight are worth more than gold.
