I Sabotaged My Own Project at Work to Teach Someone a Lesson and Now I'm in Trouble

So this might sound crazy, but here goes. At my job as a software engineer, we were assigned a project with another developer named Alex. From the start, there was tension because Alex seemed very arrogant and never took anyone's input seriously. The first few weeks went well enough, I kept my head down and did my work, but then things got ugly. Every time I suggested something new or pointed out an issue in our code, he would just laugh it off or outright mock me in front of everyone during meetings. I tried to ignore him for a while, but the more he acted like that, the angrier I got inside. One day, when we were discussing how to proceed with this project, Alex suggested cutting corners and skipping several steps to meet our deadline. He claimed it was 'good enough' and laughed at my concern about quality issues. That's when I snapped. The next week, I started working on parts of the code that Alex thought he owned. Without his knowledge, I introduced some deliberate flaws in the system design because if I could prove that he wasn't paying attention or was careless with our project, maybe it would teach him a lesson about responsibility and team collaboration. It seemed like a clever move at first. But then we got hit by unexpected issues, bugs popping up everywhere, things not connecting properly, and everyone started pointing fingers. My manager suspected me since I had been pushing back against Alex's shortcuts. When she confronted me with the evidence of these flaws in my code (which I admitted to), her face fell and she told me that this was a serious breach of trust within our team. Now, not only am I facing disciplinary action at work for my sabotage tactics, but I also have to deal with feeling like an idiot. Teaching someone a lesson backfired on me so badly, and all because I couldn't handle being undermined by Alex's attitude and arrogance. In hindsight, it was a terrible mistake and I should have handled the situation more maturely. Here’s hoping for better judgement next time.
