I Made Up an Excuse to Avoid Class

So today in science class, we were supposed to dissect some kind of frog or fish thing. I know it’s just a simple dissection and everyone says you’re not supposed to be squeamish about it or anything, but the thought of cutting up something that was once alive made me feel really queasy. I don’t even eat meat, so it didn’t make sense to me why I’d have to do this at all. My teacher mentioned that it’s part of understanding biology and everything, but it just seemed unnecessary to me personally. Anyway, instead of dealing with it, I decided to fib about being really sick. I told the principal that my mom said I had a bad fever and needed to go home right away. The funny thing is, my mom wasn’t even at school, so she didn’t know anything about this! But now here I am, sitting at home thinking maybe if I pretend to still be sick for a bit more, I can skip the dissection altogether. On one hand, it’s not like skipping class was super hard; on the other, it feels weird to just avoid things that make me uncomfortable when they’re actually part of learning something important. Maybe I should’ve at least tried it and talked to my teacher later about my feelings? Now all I can think about is whether this will come back to bite me in the future with more biology stuff.
