Newbie Mistake in the Office...

So I just moved to this new city for work, which is pretty exciting but also kind of terrifying. You know how everything's different? New neighbors, new coffee shops, and oh yeah, a whole new office full of people you've never met before... I'm trying to make friends here, show that I can fit in even though we're all just strangers to each other for now. Yesterday was my first official day at the job. I'm not sure why it seemed like such a good idea at 4 AM when I woke up thinking of something, but I decided to bring everyone donuts as an icebreaker. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious and my coworkers all smiled at first... But then there was this one moment... the manager had asked everyone to finish their projects by the end of the day so we could have a team meeting about our progress, which I thought would be good bonding material. So naturally, when the donuts arrived mid-morning, some people kind of looked at me like maybe it wasn't the best time... One guy in particular, let's call him Sam. He said something like 'Oh great, more sugar' with a pretty sarcastic tone as he took one. I couldn't help but feel guilty for interrupting everyone... and honestly, a little defensive. So I told him to lighten up because it was my first day and I just wanted us all to get along... Now everyone's kind of looking at me weirdly and the donut situation is becoming awkward. It's not like I'm saying sorry or anything though, because bringing in treats for the team isn't a mistake right? It’s just that people are moving fast here with deadlines and I might've timed it badly... Still, Sam ended up telling everyone how unprofessional this was and now my icebreaker has turned into office gossip. But you know what? I don’t regret bringing in those donuts at all. If anything, they taught me a lesson about knowing when to fit in and when to just let people be themselves on their first day too... So yeah, that's the story of how my big plan backfired slightly... but hey, now everyone knows who I am, right? Ellipsis...
