My Week of Laziness at Work

Anonymous Elusive Prowler #139 · General

I started this week thinking it was going to be the same old routine. Monday came and I thought nothing of my plan to ease into work gradually. By Thursday, however, things had spiraled out of control. My emails weren't answered, reports were late, and I didn't even bother with my usual tidying up. Every day, I'd wake up feeling so tired from the night before that I knew the day ahead wouldn't be productive. Instead of getting started on projects early to give myself time, I procrastinated until the very last minute. This made everything rushed and sloppy. By lunchtime, my stomach would be in knots because I felt so guilty about my lack of effort. My coworkers started to notice that something was off. They'd ask how I was doing or if I needed help with anything, but every time they did, I found an excuse not to accept their offer. It's like I didn't want anyone else to see what a mess I had made of my responsibilities. At home, things weren't much better. My partner said I seemed distant and wasn't paying attention during our conversations. By the end of Thursday night, I was lying in bed with this heavy feeling inside me. I couldn't sleep because all I could think about were those missed deadlines at work and how my coworkers would probably talk behind my back about how unreliable I've become. It's like a snowball effect where one day of laziness turns into a week of chaos. Friday came around, and it was clear that something had to change. So I sat down with myself, yes, literally talking out loud to convince me to get things done today instead of waiting until next week. I made promises that sounded big but were actually quite small: getting up at 6 AM for a walk before work, answering emails by noon each day. Maybe these little wins will add up over time.
