Started Woodworking and Broke Dad's Favorite Tools

So I started woodworking a couple weeks ago, bought all the fancy new tools, all the stuff for like, making tables and stuff. And Dad’s always had this shed full of his old carpentry gear, he’s got some real sweet stuff in there, you know? I was showing him my cool new toys, and he goes “Aw man, don’t use that junk,” and just sorta looked at it all like he wasn’t impressed or something. So maybe I felt a little competitive. Anyways, so I start working on this table, trying real hard to make everything perfectly smooth. And I’m not perfect yet, not by a long shot, but you know how it is when you really want that thing to look good? Anyways, I was smoothing out the top of the wood with his favorite sanding block...and uh...the sander got stuck in one little crevice and tore it right down the middle. Just like snapped. I think he’s gonna kill me. He’s not mad yet or anything, but that look on his face when I showed him... But you know what? This hobby is still new to me and I’m going to keep at it. Even if I need a second job just so I don’t have to ask Dad for more money to replace his tools. Am I the asshole here, or did he get a little too snobby about my stuff?
