That Time I Ditched Work For An Ice Cream Run

Okay, so this week at work has been a total drag. Every single day feels like it's dragging on forever with the same old tasks, the same old faces, and the same old monotony. You know how there are those days where you just feel completely burned out? Well, I had one of those today, and to top it off, I was supposed to work late because we're behind schedule. Just thinking about staying past five made me want to crawl into a hole somewhere far away from everyone and everything. Now, here’s the thing, I’m not usually this type of person who skips out on responsibilities. I mean, sure, there have been times when I wished I could do something else for work or even take off early because something came up that was really important to me, but nothing quite like what happened today. So as I sat at my desk around 4 PM and stared at the clock, counting down each passing minute, my mind wandered to all of the other places I could be. Like maybe out shopping or spending time with friends, you know? But then something entirely different popped into my head, ice cream! My favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip, and it just so happened that there was this brand new ice cream shop that opened up downtown recently. Now normally, I would never dream of ditching work for a simple treat like ice cream. And plus, who could even imagine going out when you’re supposed to stay put and get things done? But today felt different somehow. As the clock ticked down towards 5 PM, my excitement grew with every passing second. Before I knew it, I couldn’t contain myself anymore. So at exactly 5:01 PM, while everyone else was still hard at work, I quietly grabbed my bag and made a beeline for the door. You know that moment when you’re walking out of your office and suddenly feel like the most daring person in the world? Well, today felt just like that. The walk to the ice cream shop wasn’t long but it felt magical. It was like I had been given permission to treat myself after a rough week, even if only for an hour or so. And let me tell you, sitting there with my cone and watching all those other people rush past me on their way back home from work made me smile. Of course, guilt set in once the high of that moment wore off and I realized what I did. But honestly? It was worth it. Sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to be a little bit naughty.
