When I Lost My Cool Over Homework

So yeah, last night was one of those nights when all I wanted to do was relax after a long day at work. But my teenager came home and dropped a huge stack of homework on the kitchen table, mumbling about how he just didn't have time for it all. Now, usually, I'm pretty chill about these things. I mean, it's not like I haven't been there before, late-night cramming sessions and all that jazz. But something about his attitude got under my skin. Maybe it was the way he said it like this homework wasn't just a part of life but some kind of personal attack on him or maybe it was because I could see the stress in his eyes even though we weren’t discussing it face-to-face, just text messages back and forth. Anyway, before I knew it, I was lecturing him about responsibility and setting priorities. And honestly? It felt like a real parenting fail when I thought about how stressed he seemed afterwards. Maybe what he needed more than anything wasn't a lecture but some help figuring out how to manage his workload better. So now I'm sitting here wondering if maybe I should have just listened more, instead of jumping in with my well-intentioned advice. Sometimes I wonder if all this parenting stuff is as easy as people make it sound.
