My Epic Battle with Patient Bob's Stinky Socks

So, this happened a few weeks ago. I was working night shift at the hospital, and Patient Bob, who had been in for months due to some weird medical condition that no one seems to be able to cure, started complaining about his feet hurting again. Now, usually when patients complain about their feet, it's because of shoes they've worn too long or maybe a bed sore from lying down all day. But Patient Bob has these massive stinky socks on his feet that seem like they haven't been changed in weeks. Every time I get near him, my nose hairs feel like they're going to combust. I tried asking nicely about changing them, you know, offering to do it for him or suggesting a nice new pair from the supply closet. But every single suggestion is met with 'Nah, these are comfy.' Comfortable? More like a toxic cloud rolling over me whenever I walk into his room. One night, when I was feeling particularly frustrated and desperate, I decided to sneak in some scented baby powder under his sheets as he slept, hoping it would mask the smell. Of course, this plan backfired because apparently there's no masking power like stinky feet plus baby powder mixed with sleep gas. The next morning, the entire nursing staff had a meeting about a potential patient-related gas leak in Bob's room. So now I'm stuck trying to figure out a way to deal with these socks without looking like an arsonist or causing another 'gas attack' incident at work. Any suggestions on how to handle the situation? Probably best if it doesn't involve a full-scale assault of air fresheners, though. I can only hope Bob's feet get better before my sanity is completely gone.
