I'm Not Sorry I Snuck Candy in My Kids' Lunches When They Deserved It Less Than Vegetables

Okay, so here's the thing. Last week, my kids had been giving me a hard time about their lunches. Every single day they complained that I packed too many vegetables and not enough treats. They said the veggies were boring and yucky, but as a mom who cares about health, I know better. We've talked about balanced diets and how eating well now means playing more later. But you'd think it was a battle of life or death every day. So last Monday, after packing another lunch with what felt like half a garden to no end of complaining from them, something inside me snapped. I looked at those two little brats pouting about their broccoli and cauliflower and spinach, and I thought, you know what? Forget it. Let's see how long they can hold out for candy. That night, while the kids were in bed, I secretly repacked each of their lunchboxes with a few pieces of chocolate instead. The next morning, before school, my husband gave me that look like he knew something was up, but don't worry, it's not him I'm confessing to here! When the kids came downstairs and saw the same old lunches, they started grumbling about how unfair it is when healthy food tastes worse than sweets. But this time, something felt different. As they headed off to school with those packed treats inside, a part of me hoped maybe, just for once, they'd see what I've been trying to show them all along, that yes, vegetables can be annoying, but sugar has its limits too. And you know what? They came home complaining about how disappointed they were in my packing and even asked for more veggies the next day! So yeah, if you ask me now, would I do it again? Hell no, I'm not sorry about that one bit, well, except maybe to avoid the nagging. But I'll stick with the healthy stuff most days; just thought you might appreciate a mom's struggle and occasional rebellion for peace of mind.
