Patient Confidentiality Broken Unintentionally

Yesterday morning in the ICU, I was tasked with updating a patient's family about their condition. While on the phone, an incoming call came through with a code-blue alert from another unit. Without thinking, I briefly mentioned to the family that we had a critical situation somewhere else before rushing off to help. Only later did it sink in how casual that slip might have sounded, not exactly reassuring. Patient confidentiality is sacred, and while no harm was meant, such a breach can't be undone.
