My Office Prank Gone Wrong

So here's the deal. I work at this super corporate office in a skyscraper downtown. It's all suits and ties, everyone is very serious, no jokes allowed kind of place. Well, last week I was feeling mischievous. My coworker Sally had been talking about her vacation to Hawaii non-stop for days, so naturally, I decided to prank her by putting Hawaiian leis around the whole office for April Fool's day. I got there early and managed to get all these stupid flowers hanging in every single area before anyone else showed up. Then I hid behind a file cabinet giggling like a maniac waiting for Sally to burst through the door looking bewildered at my prank. But instead of her, it was our boss, Mr. Chen. He walked in, saw all the leis and froze right there on the spot staring back at me. The thing is, I'd been warned multiple times that jokes were not allowed. It's such a no-nonsense place. So after a second where we just stood there awkwardly looking at each other, Mr. Chen gave me this disappointed look and walked over to my desk. I braced myself for the worst thinking he was going to fire me right then and there but instead of that, he just sighed heavily and said, "Ms. Wang, why do you insist on being difficult? This is not a place for your pranks." Then he turned around and walked back out. I felt so embarrassed! Of course, everyone else started showing up and they all avoided eye contact with me like I was contagious or something. So yeah, that's the time I thought my April Fool's prank would be funny but instead it got me in big trouble at work. Maybe I should have just stuck to eating pie on Pi day from now on.
