Why I Spoke to Myself in German Class Today

So today during my German class, this weird thing happened. Normally, I try really hard to speak German as much as possible, but for some reason, when the professor asked us a question about our weekend plans, I started speaking to myself in English! Now, why would I do that? It's like my brain just switched gears and wouldn't let me use any of those fancy vocabulary words I've been studying. And here’s something else, my best friend Sarah was sitting right next to me. We’ve been learning German together since last semester, and this time she answered the question flawlessly in fluent German. Why is it so hard for me sometimes? Maybe it's because I’m still processing all those English podcasts I listened to on the weekend... or maybe my brain just needs a rest from trying too hard at times like this. Anyway, now whenever someone asks about weekend plans in class, I'm going to be extra cautious and probably keep an English-to-German dictionary handy.
