...My Sibling's New Girlfriend is Actually My Old Crush...

Hey everyone! So there’s this thing that happened recently and I’ve been feeling kinda silly about it...so, here goes. You know how you have these old crushes that you think are just going to be “that one time”? Well, turns out my old high school crush, let's call her Emily (she’s actually kind of famous in our circle), is now dating my older brother...and I had no idea until this week when they announced it on social media... So here’s how it went down. A while back, during the height of my awkward teen years, I kinda fancied this girl named Emily. We were friends and everything but there was always something that just felt like more. I mean, what teenage boy doesn’t have some sort of crush? But it never went anywhere because she had a boyfriend at the time... Then fast-forward to now: my brother is in a long-distance relationship with someone else. So he’s back home for a bit and everything’s going okay. Then one day, out of the blue, I get a notification on social media saying “Bro and Emily are officially dating!” ... I was like, “What? This can’t be happening! ” And then my head just started spinning with all sorts of awkward thoughts...what if they ever talk about me or the past? What if my brother knows how I used to feel about her? It’s not that it’s a big deal, but you know how these things make your mind go wild sometimes... I thought about talking to them both but decided against it because what would be the point? Plus, they’re both happy and that’s all I ever wanted. Still, it’s been this little secret in my head for days now...kinda hard not to think about Emily every time she or my brother mention “us” as a couple... I’m sure things will work out fine but yeah...it just hit me weird how life can throw you curveballs like that. And even though it feels silly, I guess I’ll always have this little part of the past with her to hold onto while they’re together... And so now when people ask me about them as a couple, I can’t help but smile and nod awkwardly...because in my head, there’s this weird mix of “Wow, glad they found each other” and also “Man, life is funny.” ...
