I Pretended I Didn't Have the Right Phone Model

Today at work, a customer asked me to help them activate their new phone. It was an iPhone model that's been out for a while now, but it had some features I wasn't sure about. Instead of admitting my uncertainty and looking up the information, I pretended I had never seen this particular model before and acted like I knew everything. Even though the customer caught on quickly and helped me figure things out, I felt pretty silly walking back to my desk. Why did I think lying was a good idea? It’s not like anyone expects us to know every single phone detail anyway. Now I just feel dumb for trying to fake it.
