I Gave Away Free Shots and Broke My Boss's Rules

So I've been working as a bartender at this dive bar in the city for about six months now. It's one of those places where everyone knows each other, the regulars come every night, and there's always some sort of drama happening behind the scenes. The boss is kind of strict but fair - we have to follow a strict code of conduct that I mostly adhere to, except tonight when I had this weird urge to just give away free shots to people. It started off innocently enough: A regular named Mark came in and mentioned his girlfriend was having another birthday. She's only 21, but they're celebrating like it's her third year of being an adult. Naturally, my brain went into party mode. I thought, 'Why not just hand out a few free shots for fun?' So I did. It started small - just one or two rounds to Mark and some friends he brought along. But then someone else overheard and wanted in on the fun. Before you know it, half the bar was getting free drinks from me under the table with their own money tucked away discreetly into my tip jar. I was having a blast seeing everyone's happy faces. But then disaster struck - one of our regulars named Pete came up to me after about an hour and said he had just taken a shot that should've been on his tab but wasn't showing in the system due to me marking it as paid for with cash. He got suspicious and went to the boss to tattle, because you know how it is when money gets involved. Now here I am thinking maybe I'll get fired or at least written up, breaking all sorts of rules without even thinking about it properly beforehand. It's like a weird form of rebellion for me, but now I've got to face the consequences and explain myself to my boss. Maybe next time, I'll think twice before breaking the rules just to make people happy. So yeah, that's what happened when I decided to play bartender fairy tonight. And honestly? It was worth it at the moment for all those smiles, even if there are going to be some unpleasant conversations in my future.
