Why I Spent My Teenagers' College Fund on a New TV

So here's the thing. Ever since my kids turned 15 and started driving, they've been treating our house like a hotel, popping in whenever it suits them, mostly for meals. They barely hang out at home anymore unless there's something going on or we force them to stay over for their own safety. But guess what? My husband and I have noticed this sudden change because apparently teenagers think it's cool to ignore family ties when they're busy with friends and school stuff. Anyway, after one particularly frustrating week of dinners interrupted by endless video calls from my kids' friends and them grumbling about how inconvenient it is to eat at home, I decided enough was enough. One evening, while they were out somewhere, I made a quick run to the electronics store down the street. And no, it wasn't just any trip, I emptied our college fund for this new 70-inch smart TV. Now before you judge me too harshly or assume I've gone off my rocker, let's talk about perspective here. Yes, the money could have been saved for their education, but isn't there value in a happy home life too? After all, they're still young enough that we can save up again and maybe even get them some scholarships if needed. I did it because I wanted to ensure we actually spend time together as a family. It's not every day you see the entire household come together just for a game night or movie marathon, especially when everyone's in their own world. The TV is a way to bring us all back home, something that pulls them out of their phones and laptops and into the real world. So yeah, I took some money meant for their future schooling and used it on a big-ticket item instead. But isn't making memories now part of growing up too? Plus, if they ever complain about me spending irresponsibly, I can always say we're investing in quality family time first, education second.
