I Ruined My Artistic Integrity?

So here's the thing. I've been an artist my whole life, and there’s this one big piece of work that I’ve been sitting on for years. It's a commentary on consumerism and how we treat our environment. The whole point was to shock people into thinking about their choices more deeply. But you know what? Getting it out there hasn't been as straightforward as I hoped. A couple months ago, this guy named Marcus from a local gallery asked me if he could take my piece on tour for an art show circuit. At first, I was thrilled! Here was someone who actually believed in my work and wanted to share it widely. But then, as we got closer to the actual dates, things started changing. Marcus suggested a few changes, tweaks really, that would supposedly make the piece more marketable. For example, he thought that making the characters less realistic and more cartoonish would attract younger audiences. I mean, come on! That's like turning Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have A Dream' speech into emoji stickers for kids. But then it got even worse. He started talking about changing my original message to fit with his own personal brand of positivity. You know the type: smiling faces everywhere, no matter what’s going on in reality. It's like ignoring all the harsh truths that need addressing because you want to maintain your 'happy vibes.' I had a serious dilemma. On one hand, this could be my big chance, my only shot, to have my piece reach audiences far and wide. But at what cost? What am I even doing here if not standing up for the things I believe in? In the end, I gave in. We made those changes. And you know what? It feels like I've lost something important inside of me. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but it's hard to shake off this feeling that I compromised my integrity just to fit into someone else’s vision. So yeah, here’s my confession: I caved and let my piece get watered down for the sake of popularity and marketability. Am I really that insecure about my art? Did I lose sight of what matters most?
