white lie to the boss

so my job is at this coffee place and it's kind of rough because i always have something on the go like making drinks or cleaning stuff but one day i was just overwhelmed by all these orders, i had a big batch of them coming in from like five tables and i was supposed to take out trash too. plus we were short-staffed cuz someone called in sick last minute. so anyways, it got so hectic that when the boss came up to me asking where the trash bags were at (he wanted to throw out some garbage), i told him i had already taken them out which i totally hadn't. and i know i could have just said sorry or asked for help but i was stressing out too much. so now whenever he comes around with a question like that, i always feel kinda guilty inside even if it's not really a big deal. i mean, i didn't lie about something super important or anything, but i still don't like fibbing at work, especially to my boss who is literally right there checking on me. plus i worry maybe he'll catch on and think less of me. but honestly, it was just one little moment when things got really busy and overwhelming.
