My Little White Lie About the Coffee Order

So I've been working at this little café for a few months now, and there's this guy who comes in almost every day. His name is Mike and he orders the same thing: a double espresso with two sugar cubes. He always pays with cash, and leaves as soon as his drink is ready. It's clear he’s not much of a talker and prefers to stay in the background. Anyway, I've had this crush on him for weeks now. The problem is, I'm terrible at flirting or talking to someone I have feelings for. So when he came in yesterday and handed me his usual order with some cash, I did something incredibly silly and probably a bit immature. I pretended that the coffee machine was broken again, even though it clearly wasn't. Then I said we could only do pour-over style espresso today, which would take longer to make. Mike just nodded and waited patiently as I made his drink, making small talk about the weather. It's not like there’s a lot you can say when pouring hot water over coffee beans. I felt pretty guilty afterward. There's no way he’ll come back if this happens again. Maybe next time I'll find a different, less lame excuse to try talking more with him without putting us both through that kind of awkwardness.
