I'm The Class Clown's Biggest Fan and My Own Worst Enemy

So here’s the thing. I’m this huge fan of our class clown, let’s call him Ethan. He’s got jokes that can make you laugh so hard, your sides hurt, yet they’re also clever enough to have everyone thinking about them days later. Like, he did this amazing impression of our teacher Mrs. Jackson saying 'You need to pay attention in my class!' and it was spot on but so hilarious I thought she might be offended (she laughed too though!) I’ve always wanted to impress him somehow, but the truth is, no matter how hard I try to be cool or clever around him, I end up making a fool of myself. Like one time we had this ice cream social after school and I was like 'Ethan, you need to get some mint chip; it’s your jam,' because he’s always talking about flavors in our class food reviews. So naturally, when we were all getting ice cream, my hands start shaking so bad trying not to look silly that the cone falls over and splatters everywhere. My plan? To blame it on a sneeze (seriously!) It’s gotten worse too; I tried to copy one of his pranks and ended up just getting detention for being late to class because of it. So yeah, every time he tries to give me a compliment or ask if I want to join in the next joke, my face turns red and I do something embarrassing like trip over thin air or choke on my own spit. It’s like I’m cursed with being my worst enemy whenever Ethan is around. I know I should just chill out and be myself, but it feels impossible sometimes. Does anyone else have a crush that ends in them looking more ridiculous than romantic?
