The Customer Who Pushed Me Too Far

I've always prided myself on my patience as a retail worker. I’ve dealt with all kinds of customers, some pleasant and grateful, others rude or unreasonable, but one day, it finally snapped. A customer was demanding I do things faster, insisting we were understaffed because he saw no one else at the till when he walked in. He started yelling about his rights as a customer, completely disregarding how hard my coworkers and I work to serve everyone efficiently. After he called me incompetent for taking too long with him, something inside me just broke. I calmly explained that we were doing our best with limited staff and that wasn't an excuse for being rude. He calmed down briefly but then accused me of lying about the staffing situation. I had enough, I told him directly to back off because he was making a huge fuss over nothing and it wasn’t okay. It felt so good to stand up for myself, even if it meant not being as passive as usual.
