I Broke the Lockers

So here's something I've been meaning to confess and get off my chest. It happened last week during lunch, but it really started way back in September when this new kid transferred into our school. His name is Matt, he's tall with dark hair and glasses, basically a total jock stereotype, right? Anyway, he came on pretty strong with all the other girls, but not me. I felt like I was being overlooked, ignored even. That bugged me so much that when we had free periods to work on projects together in class, I'd spend my time plotting how to get back at him for making me feel left out and invisible. Last week during lunch break, I decided enough was enough. There was this one locker near the end of the hallway where he keeps all his athletic gear, think jerseys and shoes everywhere inside. While everyone else was busy talking or eating their lunches, I grabbed a couple of paperclips from my bag and bent them into little hooks. Then I slipped those hooks through the small crack between the doors and lifted. One by one, I opened each locker until I got to his. I didn't take anything, not even his silly signed team photo that would have been so easy to swipe. Instead, I took a marker from my bag and wrote all over the inside of his locker door: 'Matt's Secret Lair'. Yeah, it was petty, childish even, but hey, I felt better after doing it. I did get caught by Mrs. Thompson, our science teacher who patrols that hallway during lunch, but she knows me as one of the good students and let me off with a warning. She didn't tell anyone about it. Since then, every time Matt's locker door swings open on its own or he finds graffiti inside, I can’t help but crack up. I guess my point is, if someone makes you feel bad, there are better ways to deal with it than vandalizing their stuff, but in the moment, it felt like exactly what I needed. Plus, his teammates keep joking around about how he's hoarding secret gear and that's fun too.
