Confession of a Teacher's Secret Love for Pop Music
Anonymous Chatty Flirt #206 · General
You know how sometimes you feel like everything is just going by so fast and there's not enough time to stop and enjoy the small things? Well, I've been having this weird thing happen at work. It started with one student who kept playing pop music on their phone during breaks and wouldn't turn it down when I asked. And honestly, against all odds, I found myself humming along and smiling every time they did it. So now here's the kicker, last week, I actually went home and listened to some of these songs just to see what was so appealing about them. Guess what? The more I listen, the more I think maybe there’s something to this pop stuff after all! It feels like a guilty pleasure, because I’m supposed to be an authority figure who knows everything about music. But now I'm not sure if it's okay for a teacher to secretly love pop songs while also trying to teach them about Beethoven and Bach. I mean, does anyone else here have similar issues? Am I the only one who sometimes just wants to let go and listen to some upbeat tunes instead of worrying about impressing my colleagues with deep knowledge of classical compositions? So, how do you think people would react if they found out? Is it really that odd to enjoy both pop music and classical music? What’s your take on this dilemma?
