I'm a Grad Student Who Has No Filter

So here's something I've always been known for in my grad student circles, my inability to keep quiet or censor myself. Last week, we had this big seminar where everyone was presenting their latest research findings. One of my peers, let's call her Jane, was up and she started talking about how she'd 'transformed' the field with her new study. I mean, really? It felt like a total exaggeration. Anyway, halfway through her presentation, I couldn't hold back anymore. I blurted out something along the lines of 'It's impressive that you managed to twist your data into an hour-long talk!' Now, obviously, it wasn't my finest moment and I felt terrible afterward. But here's the thing, I actually had a point. There was just this overblown sense of importance around her work that rubbed me the wrong way. So yeah, I'll own up to being that guy who speaks his mind without thinking. Maybe next time, I'll keep my thoughts to myself or at least wait until after the presentation before airing them.
