The Lied Latte Lie

Anonymous Sassy Trickster #894 · General

I remember the day clearly when I lied to my coworker, Sarah, about the latte machine being broken. The truth was that it wasn't working because I had forgotten to clean it out properly after making a particularly thick batch of espresso for myself earlier in the morning. Admittedly, this was a small and insignificant detail compared to most things that could go wrong at work, but it still niggles at me. Why did I feel compelled to tell such an elaborate lie? Was it just to avoid responsibility or was there something else driving my behavior? Now that it's been days since the incident, I've had time to reflect on why I acted the way I did and whether it was really necessary to concoct a fib rather than simply admitting my mistake. It seems silly now to think of all the scenarios that could have unfolded if I just owned up to the mess I made.
