Roomie Drama Over Spaghetti Sauce

So here's the dealio. I'm a first-year college student and I've never lived away from home before. So far, it's been pretty fun meeting new people and figuring out how to do laundry at this ridiculous campus vending machine that looks like it was designed for Lilliputians. But one thing has me stressed: my roommate’s spaghetti sauce obsession. Okay, let’s rewind a bit. I love spicy food, hot peppers, you know, the kind of stuff that clears out your sinuses and leaves your mouth tingling. But my roommate, Sarah, is the opposite. She's all about comfort foods and sweet treats. Like, she lives on mac 'n cheese and vanilla ice cream for breakfast. Now, her go-to pasta sauce is this super mild kind that’s almost like ketchup but with some herbs in it. It’s so bland, you could eat it straight from the jar if you wanted to. I mean, there's nothing wrong with liking things on the milder side, but every time she opens a new bottle and starts pouring it out for her spaghetti, my blood pressure spikes. It gets worse when we do our weekly grocery run together, which is a nightmare. Sarah drags me along with her grocery list that looks like someone just threw a bunch of coupons into a bowl and picked them randomly. I’m the one who has to remind her about basic food items every week, because let's face it, she probably forgets what actual spaghetti sauce looks like. The final straw came last night when we were having dinner together after our late-night study session (yes, college life can be that intense). As per usual, she opened one of those bottles and started serving up her pasta. Just as I was about to take a bite of my perfectly cooked noodles with my own delicious sauce packed from home, Sarah asked me if I wanted to try hers. I could feel the air get sucked out of the room as I tried a spoonful. It was like drinking water that had a slight taste of flavoring added just so you could pretend it was food. After a momentary silence where I politely chewed and swallowed, I looked at Sarah with what I'm sure was an expression of utter horror on my face. 'What's wrong?' she asked. And I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the absurdity of the situation. 'This is like eating spaghetti drowned in ketchup! You should try some of my sauce sometime, it might open your eyes to what pasta sauce can be.' We both ended up laughing about it afterward, but man, that spaghetti sauce really gets under my skin sometimes.
