When You're the Only One Who Remembers the Good Times

So here's my story. I'm a grad student in history at a small university, and I've been part of this tight-knit study group for three years now. We all started together when we were freshmen, there was Hannah, Alex, Jamie, and then there was me. We used to meet every week to discuss our readings and assignments, and even had pizza nights where we'd gather around with notebooks and toppings spread out like a battle plan for the week ahead. Hannah is the one I'm really confessing about here. She's brilliant and charismatic, everyone looks up to her as if she's leading the pack. She has this way of bringing ideas together that makes studying feel less like drudgery and more like an exciting intellectual journey. For a while, it felt like we all shared something special with her, but then things started shifting. It was last year when Alex stopped coming to our meetings, and it was only a few weeks after he confessed to Hannah about his feelings for her. At the time, I remember feeling conflicted, partly excited that she might finally get someone who could appreciate her, but also nervous because now she had a new priority, one outside of our group. But then something weird happened. Alex started showing up less and less, sometimes skipping weeks at a time. No one knows what's going on with him now, everyone acts like it's no big deal, but the vibe is different. Hannah tries to keep things light and positive as usual, but she looks tired and distant. And me? I feel like I'm holding onto some forgotten relic of our old study group camaraderie that nobody else cares about anymore. The other day, Jamie and I had a chat about how it seems strange that none of us ever ask Hannah how things are going with Alex or why Alex stopped coming to our meetings. We both agree we feel awkward bringing it up because we're afraid she'll get upset if something's wrong, but we can't shake the feeling of neglect. So here's my confession: I'm still hanging onto this idea that we were once a group of friends who shared a passion for learning and looked out for each other. But now I feel like maybe I’m just a relic, someone stuck in the past who hasn’t moved on along with everyone else. Is it normal to hold onto those memories so tightly when everyone around you seems to have forgotten them? Should I try to bridge that gap somehow or let go of these feelings and just move forward as well? Am I being unreasonable?
