Told a White Lie That Wasn't So Small

Oh, I'll tell you about my little fib that wasn’t such a little one. It happened last week when I was visiting my son's family for the holidays. My grandson had been complaining about how cold it was and how he needed new socks to stay warm. Well, I decided not to admit that I’d already bought him some brand-new, fancy socks but hadn’t given them to him because his birthday isn’t until next month. Instead, I said they were too small for him, even though he’s been wearing the same size all year. So there we sat in the mall, and when I finally told him that Santa was bringing new socks just for him, he looked so disappointed that it made me feel guilty instantly. But honestly, I think he was more upset about not getting them right then than if I had said nothing at all. And let’s face it, who wants to be the grandpa that doesn’t give presents when they can? Sometimes you’ve just got to take a small detour from honesty for a better outcome.
