bought another gift for myself

i promised my friend john last month he could pick out a present with me on our birthday weekend. we ended up getting each other nice watches at a little store downtown, but as i left that night i saw this really pretty necklace set in the window of a nearby jeweler’s shop and had to go back inside. it was way more expensive than what john picked for me though so i thought maybe he’d get upset if i mentioned buying something else too. just kept quiet about it now and wore the new piece yesterday at our holiday dinner, wondering whether anyone noticed or cared.
