My Teen's Room Is A Disaster And I'm Not Sure If It's My Fault Or His

So here's the thing. My son, let's call him Jake for privacy, has this room that looks like a hurricane hit it every time you step in there. Books and papers are scattered everywhere, clothes thrown on the floor, half-eaten snacks lying around, you name it. It’s basically a living nightmare of clutter, and I’ve been trying to figure out if he's just naturally messy or if my constant nagging is making him rebel against cleanliness. At first, I thought maybe I was being too overbearing with the cleaning chores, so I backed off a bit. But then it only got worse! So now, I’m at this weird place where I don’t know what to do. Should I just leave it alone and let Jake figure out his own way? Or should I take a more hands-on approach and try to teach him the value of cleanliness? I’ve even started wondering if it’s really me who’s messy deep down, and he’s just mirroring that somehow. But then again, my room is spotless compared to his! Maybe there's something else going on that I’m not seeing. I'm torn between feeling like the bad guy for nagging him about tidiness and worrying if I should be more involved or less involved in trying to clean up this chaos. Anyone out there have a similar story with their kid? Am I just being too harsh, or is my son really pushing all boundaries of messy living?
