The Quiet First Day

My first day at my new job felt like an eternity of silence. I was so nervous about meeting everyone that all I did was nod and smile whenever someone spoke to me. By lunchtime, I had barely said a word. The irony is that I'm usually the chatty one in social situations; it's just that today, I got stuck with the dreaded 'quiet first day' curse.
