I Pranked My Kids by Playing 'Who's the Boss?'

Okay, so I know parenting is about leading and guiding my kids, but sometimes it feels like everything they do is against me. They never clean up their toys or put away clothes on time. It’s like a daily battle just to keep the house from looking like a tornado hit it. One day, as I was scrolling through TikTok videos, an idea popped into my head, why not turn the tables and see how they feel about being told what to do all the time? So, I grabbed a whistle and started walking around like a drill sergeant, barking orders at them. 'Pick up your socks! Get in line for lunch!' They looked at me with big eyes, utterly confused but also kind of entertained by my antics. I think deep down I wanted to show them the other side of things. Maybe it would make them realize how tiring and frustrating their behavior can be for everyone else. But as the day went on, I started feeling like a total jerk. They didn’t do anything wrong, they’re just kids trying to have fun. By pranking them, was I really teaching them anything about responsibility or was I just blowing off steam? I couldn’t help but wonder if my approach crossed a line. Did I actually make things worse by playing 'Who’s the Boss?' for a day? Now that I’ve had time to think about it, this whole thing feels more like an attempt to assert control than anything else. It’s easy to blame them for not doing chores or respecting boundaries when it's hard work being consistent myself. Maybe what they really need isn’t more discipline but more understanding from me, and perhaps some better communication on both sides. But here I am, questioning whether I messed up the relationship even a little bit just because I couldn’t stand another day of toy chaos.
