When I Gave My Teacher Fake News About Homework

So, here's a thing that happened last week in my history class. We had this huge project due next Friday, and it was really bugging me because I didn't finish half of it yet. It was kind of stressing me out too much. So, when we were all sitting down to take notes from the textbook at the start of class, I thought it'd be a great idea, I use that term loosely, to give Miss Smith a heads-up about my homework troubles. I whispered across the room during one of those quiet moments in class where everyone's kind of zoning out. She leaned over, and I told her I'd done all my work already for next week, which is totally not true at all. I even made up some really specific details, like I said I did the reading on the Mongol Empire and wrote an essay about it, again, total fibs. Miss Smith just nodded and smiled and put a sticker on my homework folder. Later in class, when she announced that we only needed to read half as much for next time instead of doing our project, I felt so clever. But then, all day, the guilt was eating me up inside. I mean, yeah, it's not like I'm going to get caught or anything because my work is pretty good when I actually do it, but still...it doesn't feel right, you know? Why did I think this was okay?
