When My Shifts Are Too Quiet
Anonymous Elusive Busybody #971 · General
So, I work nights at the hospital and sometimes it gets really quiet. There’s a moment when you start to feel like maybe a robot should be doing this job because there’s no drama or patients in need... just that eerie silence of an empty emergency room. Anyway, one night, as I was filling out some paperwork, I noticed these little doodles in the margins of my patient notes from weeks ago. You know, those tiny sketches of dragons and stars? Turns out they were mine, I had been doodling during a particularly slow shift without even realizing it! Then there’s this one time when I found myself organizing all our medical supplies into neat little piles just to keep busy. It's like my brain was saying 'hey, find something, anything, to do or else you might fall asleep at your desk.' And speaking of falling asleep... there was that night where a particularly boring report had me so drowsy that I actually fell asleep with my head on the patient monitor for about 30 seconds before being woken up by an alert. Talk about embarrassing!
