Forgot to Take Out Trash Again

I suppose I should have expected this after my last failure a few weeks ago. Today, for the second time this year, I forgot to take out the trash and recycling before our weekly pickup. My son called in the evening, asking if we had everything sorted because there wasn't any bin at the curb, and all of us know what that means: another fine from the city. It's embarrassing enough as it is, but considering my age and how much time I spend thinking about these things, you'd think a simple task like this wouldn't slip through the cracks so often. My grandchildren are usually the first to rib me about it, calling me 'Grandpa Forgetful' or worse. They don't understand that with every passing year, small things like remembering to move trash bins can become as challenging as solving a Rubik's Cube in my head.
