I'm the Only One at My Job Who Doesn't Know How to Use Slack Properly

So I've been working at this startup for about a year now. We use Slack for everything, from casual chats to project updates and urgent messages. Everyone else seems super comfortable with it - they know all these cool shortcuts and functions that I have no clue about. But here's the thing: I really struggle with it. Every time someone sends me a message or mentions me in a thread, I just stare at my phone like it’s a foreign object. And every time I open Slack, my heart races because I’m so worried there might be something urgent that I missed while trying to figure out how to respond. One day, our boss sent an important announcement about a new deadline everyone needed to hit. I remember seeing the message pop up but couldn’t for the life of me figure out where it was in Slack. So, I ended up calling her on the phone and saying, ‘Hey, did you send an urgent message about this project? Can we discuss over the phone instead?’ She looked at me like I had three heads. Despite all that, there’s a part of me that just doesn’t want to give in. Sometimes it feels like everyone else is trying so hard to keep up with these new technologies and social media platforms, while I’m stuck in the past. But honestly, I’m getting tired of pretending like Slack isn’t making my life harder. And you know what? I think I might start an anti-Slack movement at work just for funsies. It’s not that I hate it, but sometimes it feels like a lot is expected from me and no one bothers to explain things in simple terms anymore. Maybe if more people realize how tough it can be, they’ll cut each other some slack (pun intended).
