My Failing Strategy

I've always prided myself on being a fair and understanding teacher. But lately, I've noticed one student who just doesn't seem to be putting in the effort required for success in my class. His grades are slipping, and it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to overlook his lack of participation during lessons. Despite my best efforts to offer extra help after school and engage with him positively in class discussions, he continues to show up unprepared and disinterested. Recently, I found myself feeling frustrated and decided to take a more proactive approach. Instead of waiting for the next parent-teacher conference, I sent an email detailing his current status and suggesting upcoming tutoring sessions to help catch up on missed work. As I hit 'send,' I realized how desperate this felt, it was like admitting defeat in my own classroom. Part of me wonders if my efforts are misguided or if I'm just not reaching him the way he needs. It's unsettling to feel so unsure about a situation that should be straightforward.
