I Broke My Own Productivity Timer Today
Anonymous Winking Grinner #996 · General
Yesterday was a good day at work, I felt focused and productive. I set my usual Pomodoro timer for 25 minutes of work followed by five-minute breaks. But today, everything changed. This morning, as soon as the timer started its countdown, something inside me clicked differently. It wasn’t just that I didn’t feel like working; it was an intense urge to destroy the object controlling my life. The irony is, this same timer had been a lifesaver for months, keeping me on track and giving me structured breaks. I watched as the red numbers counted down, each second feeling like an eternity. At 20 minutes left, I reached over and paused it. Then I started toying with it, thinking maybe if I messed up its settings, my brain would get back in sync. So silly, right? But then, out of nowhere, my hand moved before I could think about it, pushing the timer hard against the table, making it skip forward and stop working properly. My heart was racing as I stared at the now-dead clock that had once helped me so much. The rest of the day, I worked without breaks. Not because I loved the work but because the idea of setting another timer felt like a betrayal to this morning’s actions. I just sat here staring blankly, doing minimum tasks and feeling bad about my whole setup. Why did I do it? Was it rebellion against something that helped me so much? Or maybe self-sabotage to avoid dealing with other issues? Now the broken timer sits in a corner, reminding me of this weird moment when I took my frustration out on my tools.
